Where do our food plants come from?

Today, you will be tackling a "research analysis" of food plants, using what you have learned from graphing food distributions and plant types (annual or perennial) from various biomes.

First, we will view a slideshow of significant agricultural plants that we utilize:

Agricultural Plants from Picasa

Where do our food plants come from?

Your quiz will come from the following topics:

- genetic material in plant cells allows for change over time
Read the following paragraph from the University of Michigan:

- key changes in plant life reflect plant development

Go to http://www.scitopics.com/Plant_evo_devo_evolution_of_plant_development.html

Define multicellularity, diploid phase of life cycle, roots, leaves, and "reproductive complexity"

- flower evolution

Use an internet search to find information about "MADS-box genes", and explain how these genes are important for patterns found in the flower

If finished, you may complete the 'Crop Characteristics Activity" for an Extra Point.
